Paul F. Alongi, 87, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Independence Village, Rockford, IL.
He was born October 26, 1921 in Rockford, IL, the son of John and Mary Cipolla Alongi. Paul was a 1939 graduate of Rockford Community High School. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Paul married Bess M. DiGirolamo on April 10, 1948 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She predeceased him on July 31, 2000.
Paul was the owner and operator of Alongi Insurance. He was a member of the Beloit High School Athletic Association and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Paul was a former member of the Rotary Club.
Survivors include his son, Frank (Ana) Alongi of Ft. Meyers, FL; daughter, Mary (James) Degan of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Paul Alongi, Frank Alongi, Jamie Degan and Alex Degan; three step grandchildren, Angela (Paul) Darling, Tanner (Rachel) Johnson and Jaime (Brian) Walker; two sisters, Marion (Peter) Perracone of Rockford, IL and Angela (Frank) Catalano of CA; sister-in-law, Helen Alongi of Albuquerque, NM
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Carl; and three sisters, Mary Bruscato, Rose Alongi and Nell Cacciatore.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Scripture service at 3:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
