Obituary:
Ruth E. Butchart, 82, of Beloit, WI, died peacefully Sunday, August 23, 2009 in her home, after a six-year struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born November 10, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the Reverend John M. and Hilda N. (Wathne) Beckstrom. Ruth spent her early childhood in New York and Boston and later childhood in Chicago as her father served various Norwegian-Danish Methodist churches. She was a 1944 graduate of Peotone High School. She married Marshall Butchart on June 5, 1948 in Markham, IL, and moved to Beloit, WI in 1950. Ruth was employed by Beloit Memorial Hospital for 21 years as the secretary to the director of nursing, retiring in 1988. She continued to work part-time at the hospital for several years and later worked ten years for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) until 2006. Ruth had a lifelong love of music and the church. She grew up in a home filled with singing, and she sang in church choirs and ensembles throughout her life. She was a member of the River of Life United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir for 54 years. In the 1950's and '60's she directed the Youth Choir for five years and later the children's choir for three years. She sang in the Treble Clefettes women's ensemble and later in the Masterworks Chorus. Her life was rich with family and with friendships maintained from her youth, church, working life, and community involvement. Ruth also loved to travel and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Survivors include her children, John (Karen) Butchart, Ellen Butchart both of Beloit, WI, Carol (Richard) Potter of Rockford, IL and Charley (Kathy) Butchart of Kewaunee, WI; daughter-in-law, Janine Butchart of Footville, WI; grandchildren, Wes (Jennifer) Butchart, Jennifer (Danny Converse) Maxted, Travis Butchart, Michelle (James) Hudzinski, Jacob Potter, Erik (fiancé, Vicki Vieira) Potter, Sarah Potter and Kay Rammelt; great-grandchildren James, Stephanie, Alissa, Makaleigh, and Avery Jarrett (AJ); brother, Stanley (Dottie) Beckstrom of Jupiter, FL; sister, Miriam Prazenka of Lisle, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, son, Philip Butchart, brother, John Wesley Beckstrom, and sister, Edna Lane. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009 in the River of Life United Methodist Church, 511 Public Avenue, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Dawn Jeffers Ramstad officiating and Reverend Andrew Hall assisting. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Memorials may be given in her name to the music ministries of the River of Life United Methodist Church.
