Obituary:
Hazel Sullivan Brown, 76, of Beloit, WI, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2009 surrounded by her four children. She and her twin brother, Joseph, were born September 18, 1932 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of Joseph D. and Hazel Monahan Sullivan. Hazel was a graduate of Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. Hazel was employed as an elementary teacher. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and moved to Beloit in 1964. She continued to volunteer her time tutoring young children in reading and ESL while raising her children. Hazel was a competitive figure skater when she was younger, partnering with her twin brother. She later became a national judge for the United States Figure Skating Association. Hazel was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. She loved spending time with her family and being “Nana” to her eight grandchildren. Hazel also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and her cats. Survivors include her four children, Christopher (Hanne Winkler) Brown of London, England, Deborah (Jeff) Price of Waukesha, WI, Jennifer (Doug) Fry of Mequon, WI, and David (Luz) Brown of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren; twin brother, Joseph (Shirley) Sullivan of Peoria, AZ; two nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her parents. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Rd., Beloit, WI with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI assisted the family with arrangements.
