Obituary:
James T. “Lum” Brannon, 79, of Rockton, IL, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. He was born August 4, 1930 in Etowah, AR, the son of Denny and Ruby Pearl Swan Brannon. James married Carol Jean Lewis on February 23, 1957 in the Old Stone Church, Rockton, IL. She predeceased him on December 15, 2006. James was employed by General Motors, retiring in 1977. He owned and operated several bars while working at GM, including Brannon’s Bar. Since 1978, James and his wife owned and operated Turtle Tap, Beloit, WI. He enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially golfing. James loved socializing with friends and spending time with family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandpa, and brother who was loved, cherished and will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include his four children, Cathy Jean (Vic) Files, Sherry Ann Maddrell both of Rockton, IL, Todd (Marcy) Brannon and Curt W. (Dawn) Brannon both of Beloit, WI; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Billy (Donna) Brannon of Millston, WI, Edsel Brannon of Milwaukee, WI, and Johnnie (Jackie) Brannon of Janesville, WI; two sisters, Helen Creasy and Odell LaCore both of Joplin, MO. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, D.B., Jimmy, and Emmit, two sisters, Odean and Tempie. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Pastor Philip Allen officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
