W. Franklin “Frank” Boggs, 95, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, November 7, 2009 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.
He was born July 25, 1914 in Warsaw, IN, the son of Dale and Edith Bloom Boggs. Frank was a graduate of the Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts and studied in Europe. He was affiliated with the U.S. Army during WWII as a war correspondent sponsored by Abbott Laboratories serving in the South Pacific Theatre. Frank married Sondra K. Spongberg on July 26, 1960 in Dubuque, IA.
Frank was a professor at Beloit College from 1945 until 1979 as the artist in residence and chairman of the art department. He was a founder of the Art League which was a combination of artists in the city as well as the college that together enhanced the Wright Art Center of Beloit College.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra Boggs of Beloit, WI; six children, Nathan (Julia) Boggs of Beloit, WI, Timothy (Genne) Boggs of Denver, CO, Judy Boggs Varner of Vermont, Sharon Ross Boggs of Albany, WI, Dennis Boggs of New York City, NY and William Boggs of Providence, RI; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Janet (Ed) Fowler of Chicago, IL.
He was predeceased by his parents, son, Andy and one brother, Robert.
Per Frank’s wishes there will be no services. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
