James “Jim” A. Carratt, Sr., 60, of Madison, WI and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, November 7, 2009 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born April 5, 1949 in Beloit, WI, the son of Ralph Edward and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Carratt. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married Debra Lynn Kingdon on November 29, 1974 at the Great Lakes Naval Base.
Jim was one of the managers at the All Saints Retirement Center, Madison, WI. He had previously been employed by Hillcrest Apartments, Schoonover’s, and Stella Foods. Jim enjoyed riding his Goldwing motorcycle, playing pool, working on old cars, singing karaoke, and watching his son’s band play.
Jim had a big heart and especially loved his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Debbie Carratt of Madison, WI; six children, James (Jennifier) Carratt Jr. of South Beloit, IL, Richard Carratt, Donald Carratt, Sharon (David) Hansen, Chris (Heather) Carratt, and Joshua (Tracey Hensel) Carratt all of Beloit, WI; 18 grandchildren, James III, Faith and Jack Carratt, Vanessa, Mason, and Richie Jorgensen-Carratt, Abby, Ashley, and Caleb Carratt, Dustin Carratt, Baylee Windsor and David Hansen, Gwen, Nick, and Zander Carratt, Rebecca, Carly and Lauryn Carratt; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Carratt; brothers and sisters, Karen (Nevada) Evans and Valerie (Duane) Risch both of Beloit, WI, Steve(Carol) Carratt of Ankeny, IA, Marcia (Jeff) Malles of Helena, MT, Pat Carratt of Clinton, WI, and Terry (Gary) Sminchak of Beloit, WI; brothers-in-law, Jim Schaefer of Troy, MO, Kenny (Sandy) Kingdon of TN, Tom Kingdon of De Soto, MO, and Rob (Carrie) Kingdon of Thompson, IL; sisters-in-law, Vera Carratt of Beloit, WI, Kathy (Richard) Pingel of Bowler, WI, Pam (Jim) Ward of IA, Cindy (Paul) Repta of Arkdale, WI, Helen Kingdon of Prophetstown, IL, Theresa (Dan) Brooks of Hillsdale, IL, and Peggy (Dan) Wisdom of Geneseo, IL; and a special aunt, Hazel Sutherland of Potomac, MD.
He was predeceased by his father, Ralph Carratt, sister, Liz Schaefer, brother, Mike Carratt, brother-in-law, Jim Kingdon, and mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Thelma Kingdon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Pastor Bonnie Hawley officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
