Irene Elizabeth Brill, 94, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 15, 1915 in Bancroft, MN, the daughter of Charles E. and Martha E. Hiatt Wikel. Irene was a 1933 graduate of Beloit High School. She married Richard Brill on October 18, 1935 in the Second Congregational Parsonage.
Irene was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and making custom clothing for her family especially her daughter. She was a very talented seamstress, knitter and crotchetier who made wedding gowns both for her daughter and for her daughter-in-law. Irene was also very creative and made beautiful table arrangements for special occasions and won prizes for her floral arrangements. She created many apple head dolls with detailed costumes, and gave programs and conducted classes on making these dolls. She was a former Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and member of the Girl Scout council. Irene was a member and former president of the Westside Monday Club. She also was a former member of Second Congregational Church and a current member of the River of Life United Methodist Church (formerly Christ Methodist Church).
Survivors include her loving husband of 74 years, Richard Brill of Beloit, WI; son, Wesley (Sonja) Brill of Beloit, WI; daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Hamilton of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Debbie (Randy) Olson, Cindy (Tim) Liebau, Cherie (Tim) Christensen, Pam (Dan) Millmann, Michael Schnell, Beth (Randy) Olson, and Clay (Lisa) Hamilton; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gold, and the staffs at Riverside Terrace, Beloit Memorial Hospital and Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing for their skilled, compassionate care.
She was predeceased by her parents, a step-grandson, five brothers, Harry, Erving, Ray, Ralph and Gilbert, two sisters, Ida Harris and Georgetta Atkinson.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the River of Life United Methodist Church, 511 Public Avenue, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Stan Curtis officiating. Private inurnment will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be given in her name to the River of Life United Methodist Church or to a charity of the giver’s choice.
