Obituary:
Joseph “Joe” Saverio Genovese, 63, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, December 28, 2009 in Beloit Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 17, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of Saverio and Ruby (Austin) Genovese. Joe was a 1964 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He married Linda K. Campbell on February 23, 1973 in Beloit, WI. Joe was fortunate to have combined his love of sports with his many years in the Bowling business; he managed R&R Bowl, Back of the Yards, and Viking Lanes. He was also employed by WBEL for many years and could be heard broadcasting sporting events. Most recently Joe was employed by the Beloit Memorial Hospital as a security officer. He was a member of the Beloit Bowling Association, was inducted into the Beloit Bowling Hall of Fame, served as a member of the Beloit Crime Stoppers, was a member of the Beloit Boys Baseball Association, and served on the Beloit Snappers Baseball Board. Joe also helped to bring the USSSA Girls Softball Tournament to the King of Diamonds and Back of the Yards. No other extracurricular activity could ever take the place, however, of the “spill’em” card games with the boys! Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Genovese and Jennifer (Joe) Murray both of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, R.J., Chance, and Abigail; wife of 34 years, Linda Genovese of Beloit, WI; sister, Marlene Riley of Orfordville, WI; “The Boys”, a great group of friends he considered brothers; numerous nieces, nephews, many many friends, and Amanda. Joe was predeceased by his parents. Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Gene Van Galder officiating. Visitation will follow the service from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
