Obituary:
Jeffrey Allen Coan - husband, dad, son, bakah, brother, uncle and friend of Beloit, WI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the age of 50. Jeff was born on December 10, 1959 in Beloit, WI, to Dennis and Penny (Brunton) Coan. He married his high school sweetheart Lori McMillen on May 5, 1979 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Beloit, WI. He was a strong man of God whom loved his family dearly and dreamed of one day living in Door County with them. Jeff will always be remembered for his unconditional love of his family and friends. He was an ordained minister who shared Christ’s message of love through his music with many people over the years. He wrote and sang his own original Christian Epic Rock songs with his band, FreedomSpeaks. Jeff grew up working in his family’s sign business Beloit Sign & Design. In 1981 he attended Dean Blazek’s School of Neon in Antigo, WI and later he and his wife Lori opened Neo-Sculpt School of Neon where he taught many students throughout the United States. Jeff was a master craftsman in his trade; he wrote several articles in a nationally distributed sign industry magazine, Sign Builder. Jeff enjoyed glass blowing and sharing his art throughout the region from Rockford, IL to Door County, WI. His mother Penny and grandson Esmé were waiting to welcome him into Heaven’s gates. Survivors include his wife, Lori of 30 years of Beloit, WI; and when asked he said he had 5 children, Amber (Ben) Daniels of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Joel (Andrea) Coan of Milwaukee, WI, and Hannah Coan of Beloit, WI; two grandchildren, whom lovingly refer to him as Bakah – Laney and Toby Daniels; his father, Dennis Coan of Beloit, WI; sister, Yvonne (Jim) Swedlund of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and many surrogate children. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the Beloit Regional Hospice; Eve, Cara, Beth, and Annie, and to the staff at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, especially Dr. Baskaya and his nurse Letty Geanon, Dr. Khuntia, Dr. Ian Robbins, and the nursing staff in the Neuro ICU and Neuro Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Dave Fogderud officiating.
