Harold C. Popple, 85, of Beloit, WI died Saturday, February 6, 2010, in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.
He was born July 6, 1924 in Cornell, WI, the son of Charles Henry and Anna Josephine Katherine (Roux) Popple. Harold was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. Harold married Dorothy Olson on February 10, 1948 in Kansas City, MO. She predeceased him on July 6, 2005.
Harold was employed by Lincoln and McNeel Junior High Schools as a history and geography teacher for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He coached track, football, basketball, and golf at the junior high level. Harold also bartended for 30 years for a number of establishments, as well as worked at Krueger golf course.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Mead-Allen Post #2306 and the American Legion West-Field Post #48. Harold was also an avid Packer and Badger fan.
The family wishes to give a very special thank you to all of the staff at Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing. Your compassion and dedication to Dad will not be forgotten.
Survivors include his three sons, David Popple of Phoenix, AZ, Brian (Theresa) Popple of South Beloit, IL, and Bradley (Tiffany) Popple of Beloit, WI; two daughters, Kathryn (Ken) Kerst of Madison, WI and Michele (Ashley) Coldren of Beloit, WI; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Robert) Feiler of Boise, ID and Patricia Lind of Cornell, WI; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, son, Steven Popple, brother, Norman Popple, two sisters, Mary Ferguson and Arlene Gunning.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 749 Bluff St., Beloit, WI with Pastor Jennifer Jelinek officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.
