Alvin Ghinazzi, 83, of South Beloit, IL, died Friday, February 19, 2010 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 17, 1926 in South Beloit, IL, the son of Dante and Teresa Nannini Ghinazzi. Alvin was a 1944 graduate of South Beloit High School. After graduation, Alvin entered into the U.S. Navy. When returning from the Navy, Alvin attended Beloit College and Engineering Trade School in Chicago for machine design. Alvin married Patricia Atkinson on June 20, 1953 in St. Peter Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL. Alvin was fondly known as “Babe” by his family.
Alvin was a co-owner of the Rockford Design Service since 1970. He retired in 1990. He was very committed to his entire family and the South Beloit community. From his service as a Boy Scout leader of Troop 603 to his 17 years of service to the South Beloit School Board, and culminating with his active participation with the South Beloit Historical Society. Alvin devoted his time and workmanship to the South Beloit Bushnell-Wheeler House where you can see all of his loving work in each and every room.
Alvin and Pat traveled to Italy many times and took their children and spouses to visit family in Tuscany. They often packed the family into the volkswagon bus and camped across the country.
Alvin was a lifelong Sobo fan, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Ghinazzi of South Beloit, IL; children, John Michael (Carla) Ghinazzi of Pleasanton, CA, Dennis Patrick (Samantha) Ghinazzi of Aurora, IL, and Tina Marie Ghinazzi (Andy) Patterson of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Katie Marie (Elliott) Patterson, Jennifer Lauren Ghinazzi, Kristen Nicole Ghinazzi, Nathan Dante Ghinazzi, Keenan Patrick Ghinazzi, Flynn Laurel Ghinazzi, Sarah Amelia Patterson, Rachel Katherine Patterson, and Margaret Teresa Patterson; sisters, Maxine Jensen of South Beloit, IL, and Bernice Gunderson of De Forest, WI; two sisters-in-law, Letha Preston of Rockton, IL, and Liz Stanley of Arizona; many nieces and nephews including Kathy and Ed Fitch of Poplar Grove, IL; special friends, Cindy and Mike Udell of South Beloit, IL.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Bruno Ghinazzi, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in Alvin’s name to the South Beloit Bushnell-Wheeler House.
