Leon M. Berkshire, 74, of Belvidere, IL, and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL.
He was born April 8, 1935 in Richland County, WI, the son of Forest L. and Sina Mae Fry Berkshire. Leon was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He married Norma Jean Wills on July 12, 1973 in Beloit, WI. She predeceased him on February 17, 1988.
Leon was employed by Fairbanks Morse in Beloit, Yates, Rockton, IL, Ingersol, Janesville, WI and Barber-Coleman, Loves Park, IL as a machinist. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kristine Berkshire of Belvidere, IL and Cheryl (Chad) Hollembeak of Cherry Valley, IL; three granddaughters, Kayla Paris, Katelin Paris and Kassandra Schulenburg; and one brother, Leslie (Marilyn) Berkshire of Mesa, AZ.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Carmen Millard, two brothers, Robert and Gerald Berkshire, and step son, Dale Andrew Devine.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Gene Van Galder officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home.
